Techstars All-Star Mentor Bill Boulden encourages non-technical founders to understand what’s going on with the code behind their tech startups.
“Many non-technical founders just hand-wave away the entire stack as some kind of mysticism, a sort of arcane ritual they wouldn’t dare tinker with, and therefore are somehow far less inquisitive about that part of their business than any other part,” shares Boulden.
This is when Boulden introduces what they call the “Bookkeeper Test” — a way to encourage non-technical founders to ask questions and dig deeper with their dev team — a critical step to understanding the how and the why behind a tech stack.
